The sounds of the ocean interacting with the shore are both powerful and soothing. They can be hard to capture, as recordings of the ocean isolate us from the other sensory experiences of the ocean: the smells and feel of the salty air on our skin. In late September of 2018, I visited the coast of Oregon to try to capture these evocative sounds.
